These problems rarely show in the first sample. They appear later — during full production or repeat runs.

The main advantage of US deck size is that very little needs to be reinvented. People pick it up and use it without needing to adjust to anything unfamiliar, and the box side is usually easier to keep in a normal range too. It is not a format people choose to look different.Most teams choose it simply because it saves trouble later.
On the factory side, that matters more than many teams expect. Once the card size stays near a known US deck format, the whole job usually moves more smoothly. Die lines are easier to confirm, sheet planning stays efficient, tuck box proportions are easier to control, and inserts do not need constant rework just to make everything fit. The trouble usually starts when the card size is changed only a little, then later the box, tray, and carton plan all have to move with it. That is where a “small” format change stops being small.
US deck size is usually the right call when the project wants a familiar market feel and does not need the format itself to behave in a special way. If the artwork is oversized, the mechanics depend on an unusual layout, or the packaging is already going in a non-standard direction, then calling it “standard size” does not really solve anything.
