Bridge Size Playing Cards(Double Side)
For bridge size playing cards, double-sided printing should never be treated as the default. Bridge cards are built to stay easy in hand when players are holding more of them at one time, so recognition has to stay fast and clean. Once both sides start carrying information, the job becomes less forgiving very quickly.
On a narrower bridge card, small front-to-back movement shows faster than many people expect. That makes alignment, opacity, and stock choice more important from the start. If the reverse side is genuinely part of play, the extra control can be worth it. If it is not, double-sided printing usually starts adding more difficulty than value.

Card Layout & Artwork Setup
Artwork setup is not a visual step — it defines how tolerant the deck is in production.
Most alignment issues are not printing defects. They come from layout decisions made too early, before production limits are considered.
Thin borders, centered frames, or front-to-back positional matching all reduce tolerance. Even normal cutting variation becomes visible under these conditions.
These problems rarely show in the first sample. They appear later — during full production or repeat runs.

Layout determines tolerance.
Full bleed hides variation. Centered layouts reveal it.
Most “misaligned cards” complaints come from border design, not printing accuracy.
Custom Double-Sided Bridge Cards
On a bridge card, front-to-back movement shows faster than many people expect. The format is narrower, so a small shift that might pass more easily on a larger card can start looking wrong much sooner here. Borders, centered indices, and other alignment-sensitive layouts are usually the first places where that problem shows. It is not the press failing. It is the layout asking for more stability than the format can hide.
The other part that has to be settled early is opacity. Once both sides are carrying information, the stock has to block light properly or the card starts giving something away. In practice, that usually means black-core paper, and on bridge cards it is safer not to go too light. That solves the see-through problem, but it also pushes the material cost up and leaves less room to economize later.
Whether that extra control is worth carrying depends on what the back is actually doing. On trick-taking systems with hidden information, educational decks, or other mechanics where both sides are part of play, double-sided printing can be justified. On more traditional bridge or whist-style decks, where the reverse side is mainly there to stay uniform, the extra difficulty often starts outweighing the benefit. That becomes even harder to defend when the budget is already tight or the layout is demanding very clean visual symmetry.
