Holographic Game Playing Cards
For game playing cards, holographic is rarely a neutral choice. Once it is added, it starts affecting readability, information hierarchy, and sometimes even gameplay comfort.
That is why we do not usually treat holographic as a simple finishing upgrade on game cards. If the deck carries icons, small effect text, resource values, or hidden-information logic, the reflective surface can create more problems than the visual effect is worth. It only starts making sense when the deck is meant to sell on visual impact first and gameplay density second.

Card Layout & Artwork Setup
Artwork setup is not a visual step — it defines how tolerant the deck is in production.
Most alignment issues are not printing defects. They come from layout decisions made too early, before production limits are considered.
Thin borders, centered frames, or front-to-back positional matching all reduce tolerance. Even normal cutting variation becomes visible under these conditions.
These problems rarely show in the first sample. They appear later — during full production or repeat runs.
Layout determines tolerance.
Full bleed hides variation. Centered layouts reveal it.
Most “misaligned cards” complaints come from border design, not printing accuracy.
Custom Holographic Game Cards — Dynamic, Dazzling & Made to Play
With game cards, the first question is not whether holographic looks good. The first question is what the card is asking the player to read.
A mechanic-heavy game card usually carries more functional information than a poker card or tarot card. Once holographic film goes over that surface, contrast shifts, glare increases, and visual hierarchy gets weaker under normal table light. That is where the trouble starts. Not at print approval. At gameplay.
Holographic usually makes more sense on showcase or promo cards than across the full main deck. Once every card has to stay immediately readable in play, the reflective surface starts working against the job. If every card in the system needs to stay instantly readable, reflective substrate is usually the wrong default.
From the manufacturing side, the cost increase is manageable if the SKU is already positioned as a premium visual product. The real risk is not cost alone. It is choosing holographic too late, after the gameplay layout is already locked. At that point the artwork usually needs to be rebalanced, and many teams do not leave room for that.
For custom game cards that are text-light, effect-led, and display-oriented, holographic can be a strong fit. For decks with dense rules text, icon stacking, or repeated in-play scanning, it is usually better kept as a partial SKU strategy, not the whole deck structure.
Delivery packaging
card deck individually shrink-wrapped if no packaging is chosen. Paper card band used for cards if a cardboard box is chosen apart from tuck box and plastic card band used for cards if plastic box is chosen. Uncut sheets are rolled up and put into a hardened tube.
