For tarot cards, lenticular is usually a visual decision, not a reading-friendly one. The larger format gives the effect more room to show, which is why it can work on symbolic or narrative artwork better than it does on smaller card sizes. But once the lens is added, the card stops feeling like a normal tarot card. It gets thicker, harder, and less natural in regular use.
That can work for collector decks, gift decks, and other projects where the visual effect is part of the point. It becomes much less convincing when the deck is meant for frequent readings. Once the image starts shifting under light and viewing angle, the card can become tiring to read even if it looks striking at first.

Card Layout & Artwork Setup
Artwork setup is not a visual step — it defines how tolerant the deck is in production.
Most alignment issues are not printing defects. They come from layout decisions made too early, before production limits are considered.
Thin borders, centered frames, or front-to-back positional matching all reduce tolerance. Even normal cutting variation becomes visible under these conditions.
These problems rarely show in the first sample. They appear later — during full production or repeat runs.
Layout determines tolerance.
Full bleed hides variation. Centered layouts reveal it.
Most “misaligned cards” complaints come from border design, not printing accuracy.

With lenticular tarot cards, the first thing that changes is not the shuffle. It is the image itself. The larger tarot format gives the lens more room to show depth, motion, or layered symbolism, which is why this effect can work on celestial, transformation-led, or character-based artwork better than it does on smaller cards. But the same surface can also start interfering with softer tonal shifts and finer symbolic detail once the card is viewed under real light.
The structural change shows up next. Once the lens is added, the card gets thicker and harder, and that starts affecting the box as well as the deck. Tarot projects often go into rigid boxes or magnetic boxes, so inner space cannot just be assumed from a normal card build. That problem usually does not appear in the concept stage. It starts showing when the sample is packed and the deck no longer fits the way the original structure expected.
The other place where projects go wrong is the artwork itself. Lenticular tarot only works when the file is built for that process from the beginning. If the design is still being handled like a normal print layout and only converted later, the effect usually comes out weaker than expected. The decks that hold up best are the ones where the artwork, the lens, and the final use were all being considered from the start.
